Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Ayodhya, there lived a kind and noble prince named Lord Rama. He was the son of King Dasharatha and was loved by everyone.

Lord Rama was sent into exile for 14 years along with his wife, Sita, and his younger brother, Lakshmana.

During their exile, the demon king Ravana kidnapped Sita and took her to Lanka. Lord Rama, with the help of Lakshmana, Lord Hanuman and his army of monkeys, fought a great battle against Ravana and defeated him.

After defeating Ravana, Lord Rama rescued Sita and returned to Ayodhya after completing 14 years of exile.

The people of Ayodhya were very happy to welcome their beloved prince. They decorated their homes, lit thousands of earthen lamps (diyas), made beautiful rangolis and celebrated his return with great joy.

Since then, Diwali has been celebrated every year as the festival of lights.
